Tampa Bay entered the season with unsettled situations at right field and designated hitter following late spring injuries to Jonathan Aranda, who suffered a broken finger on March 18, and Josh Lowe, who suffered a grade 1 oblique strain on March 15. Aranda, following a strong performance at AAA in 2023, was considered the favorite to see the majority of designated hitter reps against right-handed pitching. Lowe, meanwhile, was expected to be the full-time right fielder against right-handed pitching with some starts against left-handed pitching following a breakthrough 2023 season.
