New Twins manager Derek Shelton inherited a messy situation: the team disappointed in 2025, went through a massive fire sale at the trade deadline, fired manager Rocco Baldelli, and saw team president Derek Falvey step down in January. In addition, the Pohlad family, which has owned the Twins since 1984, put the team up for sale only to withdraw after a year and instead take on minority owners to help finance some debt, after which Tom Pohlad took over control of the team from his brother Joe in a decision that Joe was reportedly "not on board with at first."
