F/F SPOTLIGHT: Eric Lauer

Eric Lauer (LHP, MIL) was the 25th overall pick of the 2016 MLB draft out of Kent State University. He enjoyed a pretty hasty ascent through the minors, making his MLB debut with the Padres on April 24, 2018. At that time, he was given an “8C” rating and fourth starter upside by our scouting writers. 

Through the first half of 2021, he had compiled a 4.72 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 21% K%, and 9% BB% in 316.1 IP. But then something changed in the second half of 2021, as he sported a 2.50 ERA in 68 IP. Fantasy owners didn't buy the improved performance, as evidenced by his 2022 ADP of 326. But Lauer began 2022 by amassing an eye-catching 2.38 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 28% K%, and 7% BB% in 56.2 IP before a disastrous June 11 outing (5 IP, 7 H, 8 ER, 4 BB, 2...
