Bregman’s struggles have continued … The Cubs inked Alex Bregman (3B, CHC) to a five-year, $170 million contract following an injury-marred 2025 campaign. Things have not gone to plan thus far. How are things under the hood?

 

Plate skills are fine, but the power has faded:

  • Bregman’s quality of contact has been diminished, as evidenced by career-worst PX/xPX and QBaB. His Brl% has typically been a bit below-average, and it has fallen to the 24th percentile in 2026. That all makes a return to 25 HR unlikely.
  • Despite the ct% dip, his ct% is still in decent shape. However, his BA/xBA are both down due to that aforementioned poor contact quality.
  • His OBP has received a boost from the solid bb%.
