Ober works cutter; Crochet adds one too

Bailey Ober introduces a cutter into his 2024 arsenal. 

With a 91.9 mph average fastball velocity, Bailey Ober (RHP, MIN) has seen the 13.7% SwK on his four-seam fastball dip to a 10.7% SwK in 2024. His fastball has not been as effective against hitters either, as it has a .635 SLG against with a .566 xSLG against and 55.1% HardHit% against. 

While hitters are squaring up Ober's four-seam fastball, he has introduced a cutter to his 2024 arsenal. The right-hander is turning to his cutter 23% of the time through his first nine starts in 2024. 

As seen in the graph above, Ober has reduced his four-seam fastball usage to 39.2%, while his change-up usage has slightly dropped from 28% in 2023 to 24.3% in 2024.
