MINORS: The development struggles of college pitching from the 2021 draft

Some highly regarded prospects get to pro ball and find out sledding isn’t as easy as it was in college. Every year, around this time, I internally look at the previous year’s draft, see what is working and what is not. Looking at the 2021 1st round, instantly my eyes went to the college pitchers. Except for Gavin Williams and Will Bednar, it’s been a tough go in their first full seasons. Here is the 1st round college pitching from the 2021 draft:

2. Jack Leiter (RHP, TEX) - 1.493 WHIP 10.5 Dom & 5.3 Ctl in 73.2 Double-A IP
9. Sam Bachman (RHP, LAA) – 1.290 WHIP 6.1 Dom & 5.2 Ctl in 31 Double-A IP
10. Kumar Rocker (RHP, TEX) – Did not Sign w/ NYM, went 1.3 to TEX in 2022 draft
