Brayan Villarreal (RHP, DET)
The Tigers placed Doug Fister on the disabled list and recalled Villarreal from Triple-A. The 24-year-old will pitch in long relief until a fifth starter is needed from Toledo. Villarreal is a short and athletic pitcher who didn't fare well in a brief stint with Detroit in '11 after he made the Opening Day roster. However, he does have the goods to be a contributor. His strikeout rate has decreased at higher levels of the minors and he can be victimized by pitching backwards. He uses his average slider early in the count to set up his average, 88-95 mph fastball. Villarreal can sneak his fastball by batters, but he hasn't yet mastered the art of changing speeds.
