SPECULATOR: "Put me in coach!" (Skills in search of jobs)

"Buy skills, not roles" is a core tenet of ours here at BaseballHQ.com. While that is terrific advice for the draft table, once the season starts, the need to accumulate counting stats creeps into our psyche. Before you know it, "buy skills, not roles" competes with "playing time is king" in your head, like those cartoon images of angel and devil whispering competing advice in each of your ears.

The good news is that everyone else in your league is chasing playing time as well. This leads to players with good skills but cloudy opportunity remaining in the free agent pool in many leagues. As a result, you can keep a watch list of these players, treating them as sort of an extended taxi squad hitched to your roster, and remain poised...

Almost!
