DR HQ: Pitching injuries—looking ahead to 2013

The Yankees’ 2012 season got off to a rocky start when Michael Pineda (RHP, NYY) developed shoulder soreness in the spring. Testing on the shoulder revealed a tear to the labrum in the anterior (front) part of his right shoulder. It was surgically repaired and without any damage to his rotator cuff, the Yankees are confident he’ll be ready to throw by sometime this fall. A recent report indicated he could still throw on the side before the end of the season. That’s not important. What is that he regains his shoulder strength, doesn’t have any muscle imbalances with the shoulder muscles and he improves his conditioning.
