With Merrill out, Gonzalez gets his shot in SD

NEWS: The Padres placed OF Jackson Merrill on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain. OF Oscar Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

BHQ SPIN: Merrill has been dealing with a hamstring issue and missed the Padres game on Monday, April 7. With the issue not improving, the Padres decided to place him on the 10-day IL in order to let his hamstring recover and try to avoid any lingering issues. Merrill is off to a hot start (.378/.415/.676 with 3 HR and 10 RBI over his first 41 PA), but will be sidelined for the time being. Gonzalez, who was one of the last cuts during spring training, was off to a strong start at El Paso (.290/.353/.677 with 3 HR over 34 PA)...
