NEWS: Seattle acquired 2B Jorge Polanco from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for RHP Anthony DeSclafani, RHP Justin Topa, two prospects and cash.
IMPACT: High
BHQ SPIN: After the struggles the Mariners had with offensive production at second base in 2023, this move looks to solidify their infield. Polanco has struggled with injuries over the past two years, but when healthy he has been productive. He made quality contact in 2023 (14% barrel rate) and hit 14 home runs in 343 plate appearances. This is a bat that has 20+ HR power even in Seattle, if his health cooperates. Adding Polanco, who will primarily play 2B, will lessen playing time for 2B Luis Urías, 2B/3B Josh Rojas, and 2B/SS Ryan Bliss. Urias and Rojas...
