NEWS: The Tigers activated OF Kerry Carpenter from the 10-day IL; 2B Gage Workman was optioned to AAA-Toledo in a corresponding move.

BHQ SPIN: Carpenter returned after a three-week absence due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder. While the 28-year-old is expected to eventually reclaim his regular role in the corner outfield, Detroit is easing him back into action where he will serve strictly as the designated hitter. Workman serves as the roster casualty after a tough stint in the majors. Since his call-up on May 10, he appeared in 16 games for Detroit but struggled to find consistency at the plate.
