DAILY MATCHUPS: Framber Valdez's war on worms

Today's Overview/Schedule/Weather: It’s a typical Sunday with most of the games set to begin in the early afternoon. The Cardinals and Phillies play the night game. Weather figures to have little effect on the day. Only Colorado has a small chance for rain. Even the temperatures are surprisingly tame for early July.

Framber Valdez isn’t a strikeout machine, but he generally does everything else well. The southpaw is working with career-best velocity this season while inducing a 67 percent ground ball rate. When he runs into trouble, it’s via walks. His stuff tends to skirt the lower edge of the zone. He only has one truly bad outing this season, and it came against the Angels in mid-April.
