In spring training, it looked like Nolan Reimold (OF, BAL) would be platooned with Endy Chavez (OF, BAL). While neck spasms have cost him a few games, a hot start has allowed Reimold to stay in the leadoff spot and see most of the playing time in left field.

[FREE] While the big news in LA this past offseason was the signing of some first baseman who’s supposed to be good, the Angels also solidified their starting rotation by signing C.J. Wilson (LHP, LAA). In his first two years as a starter, Wilson won 31 games and led the Rangers to consecutive World Series appearances.

After Coco Crisp (OF, OAK) spent over 200 days on the DL in 2009-10, expectations weren’t too high going into 2011. But he stayed healthy all year and posted some strong numbers. If he can stay on the field, Crisp is a good bet to deliver a repeat performance.

It’s been an exciting week for Ubaldo Jimenez (RHP, CLE). First, the dust-up with his former Colorado teammates; then, he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Saturday. While he needs to serve a five-day suspension, it won’t have much effect due to days off in the early schedule.

Springtime in New York City—70 degrees, birds are singing, sidewalk cafes are full of hungry diners. What better way to spend the afternoon than sitting in a dark, noisy Irish bar drinking Guinness and drafting a fantasy baseball team? At least 11 other people shared this belief, so we got together in Manhattan to carry out the second annual draft in the NYC Roto500 league.

Detroit may be less than 400 miles from Milwaukee, but it might as well be a parallel universe for Prince Fielder (1B, DET). Not only will he be facing a slate of pitchers he hasn’t seen very often, but he’s also going to have to adjust to a change in venue.

When the Rangers signed Adrian Beltre (3B, TEX) before the start of the 2010 season, it looked like Michael Young (3B, TEX) would be relegated to a life as a full-time DH. But injuries allowed Young to play all over the field, and he turned in another fine year at the plate. Young is a pillar of good health, but his results haven’t been consistent:

In a spring training battle for a roster slot? Just make a good early impression—like hot-hitting Ryan Raburn (2B/OF, DET), who’s vying for the Tigers’ opening day second base position. Despite the start, Raburn has fairly one-dimensional the past few years.

While the top of the Seattle rotation is pretty much set, the back-end is a work in progress. One competitor for a spot is non-roster invitee Kevin Millwood (RHP, SEA). While Safeco provides a safe haven for pitchers, there are reasons to be leery about Millwood.

Coming off of an MVP season in which he took his team to the World Series in 2010, there were questions about whether Josh Hamilton (OF, TEX) could stay healthy long enough to produce a solid encore performance. Despite missing six weeks early in the season with a shoulder injury, the answer was a resounding yes.

It sucks to get old – just ask Alex Rodriguez (3B, NYY), who turns 37 this summer. Rodriguez’s aches and pains have included hip surgery in 2009, groin and calf issues in 2010, and oblique tightness, a torn meniscus in his knee, and a sore thumb last year. Those injuries have taken a toll on his bottom line.
