The starting rotation situation in New York was a mess before Max Scherzer was suspended for 10 games following his sticky stuff run-in with Phil Cuzzi. Scherzer initially indicated he would appeal but he reconsidered when he realized the case would be heard by MLB officials rather than an arbiter. His 10-game suspension began Thursday. With Scherzer missing two starts, Justin Verlander still working his way back from a shoulder strain and projected for a minor league rehab start on April 28, plus Carlos Carrasco being placed on the injured list with inflammation from a bone chip in his elbow, David Peterson and Tylor Megill should both keep hold of their rotation spots for at least two more weeks.
