The future of playing time measurement begins right here. Based on the research of Ed DeCaria, these innovative (and exclusive!) metrics give us a better-than-ever picture of playing time. A quick glossary:

AW: Active weeks, i.e. any week where a player is active on a major league roster.

PAAW: Plate appearances per Active Week. When they're active, how much do they play?

SAW: Starts per Active Week. When they're active, how often do they start?

PAS: Plate Appearances per Start. When they start, how many PA do they get?

% vs. L: How often do they start vs. left-handed pitchers?

% vs. R: How often do they start vs. right-handed pitchers?

Mode vs. L: Most common lineup position vs. left-handed pitchers.

Mode vs. R: Most common lineup position vs. right-handed pitchers.
