RESEARCH: Just Enough to make you wonder

For anyone who has ever seen a home run barely clear the outfield fence, the natural inclination is to think that a fraction of an inch at the point of contact would have turned that not-exactly-clobbered baseball into a long fly-ball out. By extension, it might be easy to conclude that the hitter got lucky or the pitcher unlucky in that particular instance.
