MINORS: The HQ100: 2019's top prospects

Well, the 2019 BaseballHQ.com Organization Reports were completed last week, which means only one thing ... it's HQ100 Time!

The HQ100 is BaseballHQ.com's annual top 100 fantasy prospect list, chosen by a six-person panel of writers and analysts, designed to guide you and your keeper-league team through the 2018 season and beyond.

Before you scroll through to the list, a couple IMPORTANT housekeeping details that could answer some questions as you digest the list. First, the list is a compilation of six individual Top 100 lists, and is meant build a bit of consensus among BHQ writers. Participants were all BHQ writers who are well-known to avid readers of this site and contribute in some way to prospect and young player analysis: Rob Gordon, Chris Blessing, Alec Dopp, Nick Richards, Matthew St-Germain and Brent Hershey. The diversity of perspectives and opinions in the group (some see many of the players in person, others have strong statistical backgrounds, and all follow the minor leagues very closely) only strengthens the overall compiled list. As a reader, you make come to a different conclusion about the rankings here—but that's the fun of it. It would be a dull list if all six of us, and you as well, agreed on every player.

Second, because of the nature of how this list differs from our Organization Reports, we present this yearly caveat: In several instances, players from the same MLB team may be ranked differently in the HQ100 list than in the team Organization Report. This is a feature, not a bug: The team reports are written, ranked and graded by one author, who is solely responsible for all aspects of that team list. The HQ100, however, is a compilation of six different personal lists and is an objective exercise. So that's how Mike Soroka, #2 in the Braves Organization Report, ranks ahead of Ian Anderson (#1 in the Braves list) in the HQ100. Again, it's the strength of the diversity of opinions.

Third, know that while the rankings below are intriguing and fun to talk about, the details is where the meat is. For additional information on each player, follow the links from each player's team designation to this year's Organization Reports for that team. Here, you'll find commentary, development path, and specific future fantasy impact information that adds layers of color to this black-and-white list. In addition, if you need even more info, our 2019 Minor League Baseball Analyst book is the perfect companion and will be released later this month. If you haven't done so already, grab a copy to be fully prepared (1000+ player profiles) for the 209 season.

TUESDAY UPDATE: Big news! Thanks to our friends at 2080Baseball.com, most players on the list now include a video link. Most all of these videos taken within the last year or two, and will give you a fuller picture of a player’s mechanics—as well as just what he looks like—from multiple angles. Along with the player description in the linked Organization Reports page, these provide yet another tool in strengthening your own fantasy farm system. Once you’re done with the HQ100, be sure to visit 2080 Baseball’s extensive video library (like the page for 2018 Draft Prospects) for even more looks at a host of minor league and amateur players.

Get ready to discuss—we expect your feedback in the comments below and/or on the subscriber forums. And get ready for even more HQ100 coverage during our writer roundtables throughout the week.

Now go grab that next great prospect for your team!
