In last week's hitter-and-HR-focused column, we briefly touched on MLB's record-setting strikeouts and the obvious link to stagnant batting averages. Overall, MLB pitchers posted a cumulative 8.25 K/9 historic high, breaking the 40,000 strikeout mark—40,104 to be precise—for the first time ever.
