DR HQ: Uehara's season ends, is Jose Fernandez next?

Koji Uehara (RHP, BOS)
Injury: non-displaced distal radius fracture – right wrist
DL date: Aug 8
Estimated DL time: The good news is the fracture, the result of being hit by a line drive, will not require surgery. The fracture should heal without any issues, and he’ll be ready for the start of spring training.

Jose Fernandez (RHP, MIA)
Injury: Strained Biceps – right shoulder
DL date: Aug 8
Estimated DL time: The Marlins don’t seem to be concerned about this injury, but it should raise a yellow flag. If his biceps problem is the tendon close to the labrum, then it could signal more serious issues down the road if it isn’t treated completely and he avoids a repeat of this injury. The Marlins would be wise to shut him down for the year, but that doesn't seem to be the current plan. He’ll be back as soon as he gets the green light for game action, likely at the end of the month.

Howie Kendrick (2B, LAD)
Injury: Strained right hamstring (Grade 1)
DL date: Aug 10
Estimated DL time: He’s already received a platelet injection treatment in the area of the discomfort. The hope that Kendrick, who has battled hamstring issues in the past, can return in the short term, hopefully in under 21 days.

Angel Pagan (OF, SF)
Injury: Tendinitis – right patella tendon
DL date: August 10
Estimated DL time: He’s battled knee issues most of the season and this first trip to the DL this year may be what has ailed him all season. It helps explain the fact he has yet to steal a base this year. This injury needs rest, and we may not see him until rosters expand in September.

Phil Hughes (RHP, MIN)
Injury: Severe Back Inflammation
DL date: Aug 10
Estimated DL time: He received a cortisone injection for the inflammation. If the diagnosis indeed is severe, we may not see him back until mid-September, if at all.

Joel Peralta (RHP, LAD)
Injury: Sprained neck
DL date: Aug 10
Estimated DL time: He’s likely close to the end of the road, and if he were to be activated in September he wouldn't get much work.

Matt Joyce (OF, LA)
Injury: Concussion and lower back pain
DL date: July 28
Estimated DL time: His concussion symptoms finally cleared up, but now he's developed lower back soreness. He was moved from the 7-day DL to the 15-day DL. No official word how long this ailment will take to clear up, but he should be back before the end of the month.

Carlos Frias (RHP, LAD)
Injury: Sore lower back
DL date: Aug 2
Estimated DL time: The Dodgers are likely to keep him on the disabled list until the rosters expand on September 1.

Brandon Maurer (RHP, SD)
Injury: Inflammation – right shoulder
DL date: Aug 10
Estimated DL time: The Padres think they caught it in time, so the malady doesn’t linger long enough to end his season. Look for a return right around the end of the month.

Chaz Roe (RHP, BAL)
Injury: Bursitis – right shoulder
DL date: Aug 10
Estimated DL time: While his bursitis doesn’t appear to be serious, they’ll make sure it clears up, so it doesn’t become a chronic condition. He should return to the mound before rosters expand and pick up where he left off.

Aaron Barrett (RHP, WAS)
Injury: Sprained right elbow
DL date: Aug 6
Estimated DL time: he was headed to Triple-A when the Nationals placed him on the disabled list. He isn’t likely to return until September if at all this season.

Dan Uggla (2B, WAS)
Injury: Back spasms
DL date: Aug 8
Estimated DL time: He isn’t likely to return before rosters expand in September, and when he does return his role is likely just to be an occasional pinch-hitter.

Mike Leake (RHP, SF)
Injury: Strained left hamstring (Grade 1)
DL date: Retro to Aug 3
Estimated DL time: He’s already throwing, and the hamstring injury is healing quickly. He’s expected back August 18-22.
