DR HQ: Cards lose Holliday; Yanks worry about Pineda

Michael Pineda (RHP, NYY)
Injury: Strained right forearm muscle – grade 1
DL date: July 25
Estimated DL time: He’ll rest 7- 10 days, then start long-tossing. Even without a setback, he could be out a full month. If it is only the muscle, the Yankees and Pineda likely have dodged a serious injury.

Matt Holliday (OF, STL)
Injury: Strained right quad muscle
DL date: July 30
Estimated DL time: This is his second trip to the DL with this injury. The first DL stint went from June 9 to July 12. Holliday could need another four weeks to recover, putting his return right around the start of September.

Dustin Pedroia (2B, BOS)
Injury: Strained right hamstring
DL date: Retro to July 23
Estimated DL time: This is his second trip to the DL with this injury, and he was given a platelet-rich plasma treatment this time to help the healing process. Boston expects him back by the end of the month. This latest trip will only add fuel to the fire Pedroia is starting to break down physically.

Michael Cuddyer (OF, NYM)
Injury: Bone bruise under left knee cap
DL date: Retro to July 22
Estimated DL time: This is an injury that requires rest and medication to calm down the inflammation. The Mets can ill afford to have him on the DL for an extended period. He should be back from the middle to the latter part of August, but how healthy will he be?

Randall Delgado (RHP, ARI)
Injury: Sprained right ankle – grade 1
DL date: July 28
Estimated DL time: He’ll need at least 17-20 days to let the swelling go down and then rebuild his arm strength.

Neil Ramirez (RHP, CHC)
Injury: Strained left oblique
DL date: July 26
Estimated DL time: This can be a tough ailment to try and come back from quickly. While some in Chicago believe he only needs 15-18 days, this injury rarely clears up that fast. He’s likely out closer to four weeks.

Emilio Bonifacio (IF, CHA)
Injury: Strained left oblique
DL date: July 29
Estimated DL time: The typical time for this ailment is now 26-31 days, and Bonifacio should fall within that range.

Manny Banuelos (LHP, ATL)
Injury: Bone spur – left elbow
DL date: July 25
Estimated DL time: Right now the Braves don’t think he needs surgery, hoping that rest and rehab will quiet down the elbow. The fact that the spur is in the back of the elbow makes one wonder that if it were to break off, would the UCL (ulnar collateral ligament) be in danger of being torn? Apparently the Braves don’t think so at the moment. While it's possible he’ll return in 2015, the wise move may end up being placing him on the 60-day DL and focusing on the 2016 season.

Nate Adcock (RHP, CIN)
Injury: Sore right elbow
DL date: July 27
Estimated DL time: This bullpen filler is out indefinitely until the Reds provide more information on the type and degree of injury with his elbow.
