How things have changed in St. Louis. Just a week ago, we were writing about the Cardinals perhaps having nowhere to play Allen Craig, and now Lance Berkman has joined him on the sidelines. Also out: the A's Brandon McCarthy. Who will fill these voids? In one case at least, a top prospect...

Geovany Soto (C, CHC) was placed on the 15-day DL Friday with a torn left meniscus. He will have arthroscopic knee surgery and is likely to miss 3-6 weeks. Wellington Castillo (C, CHC), an April callup, will assume regular catching duties until backup Steve Clevenger's (C, CHC) likely late-May return from a strained oblique. Career minor-leaguer Blake Lalli (C, CHC), profiled in Callups, was added to the roster as Castillo's temporary backup.

After another successful PQS-DOM start on Tuesday, Jordan Lyles (RHP, HOU) will remain the Astros rotation for time being, the club announced. Lyles had a spot start in April (also a PQS-DOM) and had sprinted out to a 5-0, 3.49 ERA start with a 4.0 Cmd in Triple-A before his May 15 callup.

Alex Presley (OF, PIT) entered the season as a popular sleeper in many fantasy leagues after a mini-breakout campaign in 2011, but he hit only .220 in his first 118 AB. He has especially struggled over the past three weeks, going only three for 44 since April 29. His problems have been largely of his own making, as he's given back all of the skills growth that fueled last season's breakout.

Rafael Soriano (RHP, NYY) successfully converted a save opportunity May 10, when David Robertson (RHP, NYY) was unavailable after pitching the previous two days. Robertson was still expected to get the next opportunity, but Soriano got the call in the ninth on May 14, and again got the job done. As it turns out, Robertson was unavailable then as well, due to a strained oblique that is expected to sideline him for about three weeks. Those who have stashed Soriano away could be rewarded, as he is in line for saves now, and there's no guarantee Robertson reclaims the job when healthy.

Yet another closer has been deposed, this time in Oakland, where the team is also dealing with an injury to its starting center fielder. Meanwhile, over in the National League, the Mets may be mulling a similar change, while a catcher has suffered a season-ending knee injury.

Mike Trout's much ballyhooed arrival signaled a decrease in playing time for one or more Angel outfielders, but who has taken the brunt of it? We also look at the suddenly productive Oakland CI and the woeful SS situation in San Diego as well as some injury updates and the signing of an old favorite...

Chris Sale (LHP, CHW) reportedly is scheduled to start Saturday, ending his brief stint as closer seemingly before it even began. CHW had removed Sale from the rotation May 4, designating him closer amidst reports of elbow tenderness and erstwhile rookie closer Hector Santiago's (LHP, CHW) ineffectiveness. Sale will make his start with two days' rest since a one-inning May 8 relief appearance.
