CONTENT UPDATES
The voluminous amount of information in each year's Baseball Forecaster is compiled and written over the course of six weeks. In a project as large as this, and with such short time frames, there inevitably will be a few little things that slip through the cracks. This page will identify items that require further clarification or correction from the 2008 Baseball Forecaster. This page will be updated as new items are discovered.
Page 3, page 66: Barry Bonds' indictment occurred after the book went to press. We were able to tag a short sentence onto a passage in the introduction but his player box remains unmodified on the off chance that he still might play in 2008. His projection will be updated online, as appropriate.
Page 122: In the Shawn Chacon commentary, the years are referenced incorrectly; it should be 2005 and 2006, not 2004 and 2005.
Page 135: Joe Kennedy's unfortunate passing occurred after the book went to press. We were able to zero out his projection and modify the commentary, but he still might appear in other sections in the book.
Pages 163-170: The xERA values for each pitcher in the PQS Logs section do not match the values in their player boxes. We had made a slight modification to the formula in the boxes but neglected to carry it over to the logs. The xERAs in the player boxes are the most accurate. A quick-and-dirty method to adjust the xERAs in the pitching logs is to multiply each value by 1.1.
Reliability Scores: There was an error in one of the variables in the Reliability Score formula that affected a group of players. For most, the change was insignificant and would not affect how they are used in applications like the Portfolio3 Plan. For some, the change was more notable. These were the notable changes:
